Thane Apartment Tour: Neutral Tones, Curves & Luxury (2026)

When it comes to interior design, the power of neutrals is often underestimated. But this 3,000-square-foot apartment in Thane, India, is a testament to the beauty and versatility of a neutral palette. Jasem Pirani and Huzefa Rangwala of MuseLAB took on the challenge of creating a calm and cohesive space without falling into the trap of monotony. And boy, did they deliver!

The Challenge of Monotones

The designers were faced with a unique brief: to create a light and neutral space that felt refined and layered, yet cohesive. It's a delicate balance to achieve, especially when working within a narrow tonal range. As they put it, "On a mood board, everything can start to look flat."

Texture and Material Play

To add depth and interest, MuseLAB focused on texture and material. They played with light and shadow, creating sculptural forms that brought the space to life. A very light veneer, almost white, served as the base, complemented by a tone-on-tone palette of beiges and warm ivories. Every surface was carefully considered, ensuring a quiet and refined atmosphere without abrupt contrasts.

Curves and Circles

One of the most striking features of this apartment is the use of curves and circular forms. The expansive living area, spanning an impressive 900 square feet, is a masterpiece of fluid design. From the ribbon-like wall to the concentric circles on the ceiling, every element seems to be in motion. Even the layout follows a circular theme, with spaces intersecting and flowing into each other.

Unique Interventions

The marble inlay floor is a standout feature, a result of meticulous planning and execution. The designers wanted a terrazzo effect without using conventional terrazzo. They opted for Lake Placid Quartzite, a hardy material cut into terrazzo-like chips using waterjet technology. These chips were then inlaid into marble, creating a unique and custom floor design.

A Coffee Corner and Personal Touches

A charming coffee corner, a request from the clients, adds a personal touch to the living area. It reflects the couple's shared love for coffee and their daily ritual. The kitchen, too, is a study in neutrals with soft sage accents.

Tranquility and Personality

The primary bedroom exudes a sense of calm and tranquility. The sandy taupe palette and curved elements reflect the clients' calm and grounded personalities. The arched headboard, finished in Movingue White veneer, adds depth and interest. Scalloped motifs frame the bay window, offering a peaceful view of the spa pool.

Colorful Contrasts

While the parents' bedroom maintains a mature and refined aesthetic, the sons' bedrooms embrace a more playful approach. Electric green and steel blue hues bring a whimsical touch, offering a contrast to the rest of the home.

A Study in Balance

This apartment is a perfect example of how design can strike a balance between indulgence and minimalism. It's textural without feeling heavy, and minimal without being cold. MuseLAB has created a space that is both conceptually driven and incredibly inviting.

In my opinion, this apartment showcases the art of interior design. It's a masterclass in how to create a unique and personal space while maintaining a cohesive and calming atmosphere. The use of neutrals, texture, and thoughtful interventions makes this home a true work of art.
